Brightwell Care Officer

    I am currently representing Merton Council, who are offering an initial temporary contract for a period of 6 months with a view to be extended or offered a permanent position for the right candidate at a rate which is negotiable dependent upon experience

    We are looking for a Brightwell Care Officer this role will be: Brightwell Respite Care Centre, SM4 5LT

    The right candidate will:

    To meet the care and recreation needs of the children with disabilities who are provided with short breaks. To ensure a safe and stimulating environment is maintained for the children. Being part of a team whose standards and work practice exceed the expectations set out in the legislation

    * Work as a member of the childcare team to establish a secure, safe and stimulating environment for the children and young people. To encourage learning through play and recreation, by providing a stimulating and enabling environment which enables all to develop to their full potential.

    * To carry out high quality written and photographic observations, planning and assessments, identifying next steps for children’s and young people’s development. Ensure folders are kept up to date and regular reports are written to ensure effective communication with colleagues and parents

    * To actively promote and implement the short breaks service’s vision, with a clear focus on children’s/young people achievement and participation in purposeful and fun activities/programmes.

    * To take responsibility for the planning and preparation of the playrooms and the outside areas, using observation of children/young people and evaluation of the provision to ensure all play/recreation areas fully enhance children’s/YP learning and interests and are effectively risk assessed

    * To clear and tidy the inside and outside play/recreation/dining areas at the end of activities or the end of the day. To take an active role for moving furniture and equipment, when necessary.

    We require the following:

    * Staff must hold a relevant qualification at level 3 and a good standard of education, for example, GCSE with good written, spoken and communication skills

    * Experience of direct working, planning and delivering a range of activities and opportunities that provide a stimulating environment for children and young people with SEN, disabilities and complex needs across a wide age range

    * To have experience of working in partnership with parents/families to improve outcomes for children/young people.
